National Fire Prevention WeekOctober 12, 2017 –  This week is National Fire Prevention Week.  Today, the 5K and 3rd grade students at Central-Denison had a special visit from the Lake Geneva Fire Department.

Students had the opportunity to learn about the importance of working smoke detectors and knowing the sound of the smoke detector.  When the smoke detector sounds, they should get out and stay out.  The students learned that just like they do at school, they should have fire drills at home.  Practicing with their families how to get out in a fire and identifying a family meeting spot outside of their home.

Along with fire safety, students learned about the special clothes and equipment firefighters use for protection.  Seeing a fire fighter and realizing they are not scary.  As well as getting a tour of the fire truck and learning about all the tools.

The program reminded kids how to get help from the fire department by calling 9-1-1, and if they are ever in a fire to yell loud so the fireman can hear them.

The kids enthusiastically watched and participated in the program.  As they walked back into the building the students, many of which dream of becoming a firefighter when they grow up, gave high fives to the firemen.

Thank you to the Lake Geneva Fire Department for your wonderful program!
